We Are Looking For Support Workers To Join Our Team
Across Edinburgh we support people with exceptional needs and we need exceptional people to help us. At Streetwork we are wholly focused on supporting people to be safe, to get off the streets and into accommodation where we continue to provide support to help them stay safe. We encounter lots of different people who find themselves at increased risk, not least young people and women for whom we’re developing a unique response to their unique needs and opportunities. If you’re looking for a genuinely fulfilling job, with a great team and a real opportunity to make a huge difference to people’s lives, then read on.
We welcome the City of Edinburgh Council’s emphasis on resolving homelessness which has been enhanced by the Scottish Government’s 2017 commitment to aim to eradicate rough sleeping in Scotland.
We were excited to see the commitment translate to action last winter through empowering front line workers with practical solutions to resolve homelessness. This focus on resolving homeless didn’t stop when winter ended, there is a lot more to do and we are expanding our team so that we can contribute even more to achieving the national vision.
Our values matter to us and we are looking for people who share those, who are committed to making a positive difference, and who are skilled in relating to people and working in a person-centred way to support resolution and recovery from homelessness.
Our current opportunities are for support workers with the following objectives:
Supporting young people at risk
We are looking for two new Support Workers to join our amazing Street Team who have an interest and commitment to supporting young people. These posts will have a specific focus on preventing rough sleeping for young people who are at risk or currently vulnerable on the street. Key success factors will be the ability to connect and understand the issues young people are experiencing; strong partnership and solution focus; communicating and connecting with multiple agencies and creating solutions to ensure young people are safe from harm, exploitation and rough sleeping.
Supporting women experiencing homelessness
Women experiencing homelessness have often endured and continue to experience trauma, risk and vulnerabilities. We’re looking for two fabulous people to join us in creating a uniquely personal approach and response to the women we support. These are new posts created to help us respond differently to the needs of the women we support, to enable them to be safe and to recover.
Supporting rapid access to accommodation
Working within a newly established team, this role will focus on helping people access accommodation quickly and minimising the length of time they spend in temporary accommodation. We are looking for a Support Worker who understands the housing system and who can build partnerships and positive working relationships with housing providers, Streetwork services and other agencies working in the field so that we can help more people find secure housing.
Homelessness doesn’t just happen during office hours and so our work takes place 7 days a week at times that meet the needs of the people we support. Support Workers also contribute to covering our Helpline overnight on a rota basis.
The salary for these positions is £17, 612 – £19, 601.
