Streetwork’s Women’s Service offers a range of support to vulnerable women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Whether you need a hand with something practical or just an ear to listen. We can deal with issues such as housing, homelessness, domestic violence, prostitution, addictions and mental health.
Some areas of support we offer:
Targeted Women’s Outreach – The women’s Service delivers four targeted shifts per week, and will deliver more where required. This is street based support targeting women who are rough sleeping, begging, street drinking or just socialising within the homeless community. We will also target hostel and B&B accommodation to offer advice and assistance and routes into a support package that suits your individual needs.
Drop-in sessions – We deliver 6 drop in sessions a week where you can access a safe space, meet new people, meet a worker or simply get a “cup of tea”. This is great if you need to fill up your day, or if an appointment based support service doesn’t suit you. The times are set and you can access the drop in as sporadically as you wish.
Tenancy support – This service is perfect if you are changing accommodation or moving into a new home. We can provide a structured visiting support package to help you settle into your new tenancy and increase your confidence in managing all involved in maintaining a successful tenancy.
1:1 planned support – We can provide a support package for you to spend time with a worker 1:1. This service has limited hours available and you will be given priority for support depending on your needs, whether it’s practical issues or emotional support.
Targeted Sex Industry Work – We can provide specialist support to you if you are involved in the sex industry. We will support you to find routes out of sex industry work, and support you to do so at your own pace.
Activities and Groups – We offer a range of different activities and groups that you can access. All with the purpose of helping you learn new skills, make positive changes and meet new people.
What you should expect when you speak to the Women’s Service
Firstly you should get and informative and friendly response. If you have any questions call the office and ask to speak to one of the women’s workers. If we are not around we will call you back ASAP, or pop in to one of or drop in’s.
There will be a brief assessment carried out with the information we have and a ‘best’ starting place will be decided for you. As spoken about above we have various ways in which we can offer support, giving us the flexibility to provide the best possible package to every women we come into contact with.
