WOMEN'S PROJECT

Domestic abuse can lead to homelessness, addiction, mental health problems – the list is long.

We find women on the streets that are at risk and in crisis, offer women-only safe space and follow-on support to move from crisis to stability. Providing information, guidance, advocacy and brokerage helps to include women in their communities and ensure they get the support they need.

A safe place to go for support and advice, a cup of tea and a friendly face - it sounds straightforward but the needs of women in violent and abusive relationships are complex and a trusting professional relationship is only the starting place. Often women don’t know where to turn, fear for their lives, the lives of their children and struggle to see a future.

Our Women’s Project is both street based and drop-in so we can meet with women at times that suit them and at their pace. Often a woman meets us when she is in crisis and the priority is a stable and safe base on which to think about future steps.

We manage the crisis and then move on, with each step reducing the likelihood of future crisis. One-to-one support helps to maintain change and increases confidence and self esteem – both essential for lasting change. Our drop-in sessions are primarily for peer support but we also take the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge that will make independent living a reality for the women who use our support.

We also work closely with our Crisis Service to ensure that women experiencing housing crisis and are at risk of sleeping rough, have access to our specialist support.
